In this wellness session, we’ll explore the basics of composting and learn practical tips and resources for creating nutrient-rich soil from food scraps and other organic waste. We’ll discuss the environmental impact of food waste and how composting can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build healthier soil.
We’ll also share ideas and strategies for composting in various settings, from urban apartments to suburban yards and gardens.
Composting Basics: We’ll start by discussing the principles of composting and how it works. We’ll provide a simple breakdown of what can and can’t be composted, and the different types of composting systems available. We’ll also discuss the importance of balancing “green” and “brown” materials, and how to manage common issues such as pests and odors.
DIY Composting Bin: We’ll provide instructions and materials for building a simple composting bin from scratch. This can help employees create their own composting system at home or in their community, regardless of the space they have available.
Hands-On Composting: We’ll provide materials and guidance for starting a compost pile or bin, and demonstrate how to layer materials effectively. Participants will have the opportunity to practice hands-on composting and learn how to troubleshoot common issues.
Using Compost: We’ll discuss the benefits of using compost in gardening and landscaping, including improved soil health and plant growth. We’ll provide tips and resources for using compost effectively, and demonstrate how to apply it to different types of plants and soil.
By the end of this session, employees will have a deeper understanding of the principles of composting and how to apply them in their daily lives. They will have learned how to set up and manage a composting system, how to troubleshoot common issues, and how to use compost effectively in their gardens and landscapes.
