Introduction

Assertiveness is the ability to express one’s own needs, wants, and boundaries in a clear and respectful manner.
It is an important skill in any work setting, as it can help to improve communication, foster healthy
relationships, and prevent misunderstandings and conflicts.

In this Skills Training Program/Workshop, participants will learn about best practices for developing and
demonstrating assertiveness in the workplace.

The aim of this session is to equip employees and managers with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively
express their needs, wants, and boundaries in the workplace.

  • To understand the concept of assertiveness and its importance in the workplace
  • To learn about the differences between assertive, aggressive, and passive communication styles
  • To learn about strategies for improving assertiveness in the workplace
  • To understand the role of assertiveness in conflict resolution and boundary setting
  • The session will include a mix of theoretical and practical elements, including lectures, group discussions, and hands-on exercises.
  • Participants will be given the opportunity to practice demonstrating assertiveness in simulated workplace situations.
  • Case studies and real-life examples will be used to illustrate key concepts and help participants understand how the principles covered in the session can be applied in a work setting.
  • The session will introduce participants to relevant theories and models related to assertiveness, such
    as the Johari Window and the Assertiveness Grid.
  • The session will also cover best practices for demonstrating assertiveness in the workplace, such as
    clear and respectful communication and active listening.
  • The knowledge and skills gained in this session can be leveraged in a variety of work settings to improve communication, foster healthy relationships, and prevent misunderstandings and conflicts.
  • Participants will be able to understand and demonstrate assertiveness in different situations and will be able to use assertiveness as a tool for conflict resolution and boundary setting.
  • They will also be able to develop strategies for improving assertiveness in their own work setting.

  • Participants will work in small groups to practice demonstrating assertiveness in simulated workplace situations.
  • They will be given a scenario and will be asked to use clear and respectful communication, active listening, and appropriate body language to express their needs, wants, and boundaries.
  • The group will then present their responses to the rest of the class for feedback and discussion.

At the end of this session, participants will have gained a thorough understanding of the concept of
assertiveness and its importance in the workplace.

They will have the knowledge and skills needed to effectively express their needs, wants, and boundaries
in the workplace, and will be able to use assertiveness as a tool for conflict resolution and boundary
setting.

They will also be aware of strategies for improving assertiveness in their own work setting.
